SOUTHPORT, N.C. — Three people are dead and several others injured after a gunman opened fire from a boat at a waterfront bar in North Carolina on Saturday night. The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. at the American Fish Company in the Southport Yacht Basin.
How the attack unfolded
Authorities say the suspect paused briefly in a boat outside the popular bar before firing multiple rounds at patrons. Southport Police Chief Todd Coring confirmed at least six people were transported to hospitals with gunshot wounds. Their conditions remain unknown. Dosher Memorial Hospital reported that two victims were treated and later released.
The suspect detained
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder. He was apprehended around 10 p.m. by the U.S. Coast Guard after being spotted loading a boat at a public ramp in nearby Oak Island. Edge remains in custody without bond.
