U.S. President Donald Trump has released an official statement following the shocking assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on a Utah college campus.
What Trump Said
In his statement, Trump described Kirk as “a man of great faith” and praised his connection with America’s youth.
“There has never been anyone so respected for youth, he speaks to his faith in God. Our prayers are with his wife and kids and family who he loved more than anything in this world,” Trump said.
Calling the incident a “dark moment for America,” Trump expressed both grief and anger over Kirk’s killing.
“To my great fellow Americans, I’m filled with grief and anger at the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah,” he wrote. “Charlie inspired millions.”
National Reaction
The death of Kirk, founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA, has sent shockwaves through political and student communities across the country. Tributes and condemnations continue to pour in from leaders on both sides of the political aisle.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the campus shooting.
