The Minnesota Vikings’ inclusion of male cheerleaders for the 2025 season has ignited heated debate across social media. Blaize Shiek and Louie Conn, the team’s newest male cheerleaders, have defended themselves against online criticism as the organization publicly supports them.
Former Vikings player and conservative activist Jack Brewer expressed strong disapproval. “I’m disgusted and embarrassed,” Brewer told Fox News Digital. “As a former Viking team captain and lifelong fan, I never expected this. No man needs a pom-pom in his hand.”
Brewer added that the move could negatively influence children, particularly minority boys. “This is purely an attempt to manipulate young children,” he said. “It undermines traditional masculinity in a sport historically known for its strength and competition.”
Team defends male cheerleaders
The Vikings issued a statement emphasizing support for Shiek and Conn. “Every member of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders program has an impressive dance background and went through the same rigorous audition process,” the team said. “We support all our cheerleaders and are proud of the role they play as ambassadors of the organization.”
Approximately one-third of NFL teams now feature male cheerleaders. Teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Carolina Panthers have successfully incorporated men into their squads. The Panthers also featured the league’s first openly transgender cheerleader, Justine Lindsay, in 2022.
