LONDON, UK — Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has signaled interest in funding legal actions tied to Britain’s grooming gang inquiry, stressing growing public concern over failures in local authorities.
Inquiry Reveals Shocking Scale
Rupert Lowe MP, chair of the Rape Gang Inquiry, said research shows abuse in at least 85 local authorities. He noted that “hundreds of thousands of lives have been ruined at the hands of predominantly Pakistani rape gangs.” Lowe also criticized the government for failing to act effectively.
Elon Musk’s Involvement
Musk responded on social media, stating he would consider funding legal cases against officials complicit in the abuse. He wrote, “85 cities in Britain where local authorities were complicit in the rape of children…rape gangs operate in at least 85 areas.” His remarks amplified concerns about targeted exploitation and systemic failures.
Internal Dispute in Inquiry Panel
The inquiry has also faced internal criticism. Donna Rachel Edmunds, founder of the National Archive for the Survivors of Grooming Gangs, said she was removed from the panel. She described the operation as “an utter shambles.” Edmunds argued her team could have ensured ethical testimony collection. However, disputes over funding led to her departure.
Calls for Accountability
Lowe stressed that exposing systemic failures is only the beginning. “The government isn’t doing anything effective,” he said, calling for independent oversight and stronger legal action. The inquiry now aims to amplify survivors’ voices while pressing for accountability from officials who failed to protect children.
