Massive Data Breach Reported
Credit reporting and identity verification company 700Credit suffered a data breach affecting at least 5.6 million people. The Michigan-based firm provides credit checks for auto dealerships across the United States.
Information Stolen
The breach, which occurred in October 2025, exposed names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. According to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, the stolen data was collected from dealerships between May and October 2025.
Company Response
700Credit stated that the breach was caused by an unidentified bad actor. The company is now notifying affected individuals by mail and offering credit monitoring services.
“If you get a letter from 700Credit, don’t ignore it,” said Nessel. “A credit freeze or monitoring services can go a long way in preventing fraud.”
