UNITED NATIONS — President Donald Trump sharply criticized the UN during his address to the General Assembly today, questioning its effectiveness after recounting what he called his unprecedented record of ending seven international conflicts.
Trump declared, “No President or Prime minister has ever done anything closer to that — and I did it in just seven months.”
He said that instead of support, the only things he ever received from the UN were “an escalator that stopped halfway with the First Lady on it” and a “teleprompter that didn’t work.” With a sarcastic “thank you very much,” Trump asked delegates,
“What is the purpose of the United Nations?”
The Seven Wars Trump Claims to Have Ended
The White House has previously identified the conflicts Trump refers to:
- Israel and Iran – Ceasefire after Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.
- Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo – A Washington-brokered peace deal, though violence continues.
- Armenia and Azerbaijan – Negotiations to normalize relations, still awaiting ratification.
- Thailand and Cambodia – Border ceasefire after Trump threatened trade consequences.
- India and Pakistan – A May ceasefire over Kashmir hostilities.
- Egypt and Ethiopia – Ongoing Nile Dam dispute; tensions cooled but unresolved.
- Serbia and Kosovo – Economic normalization efforts, with little recent progress.
Foreign policy analysts say many of these disputes remain fragile or unresolved, but Trump has repeatedly claimed full credit, even arguing he should receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
A Nobel in Sight?
Over 100 laureates have received the Nobel Peace Prize since its creation, including four U.S. presidents. Trump has been nominated for 2025, with the committee expected to announce its decision next month.
Critics, however, note that while Trump brokered ceasefires and pressured governments, many of these conflicts were not full-scale wars — and in several cases, fighting has continued.
Still, at the UN, Trump made clear he believes his record speaks for itself — and that the United Nations cannot match it.
