Toronto Tops the List Again
Toronto has once again earned the title of Canada’s “rattiest” city, according to Orkin Canada’s 2025 Rattiest Cities ranking. The results, based on residential and commercial rodent treatments performed between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, place Toronto at the top for the fourth consecutive year.
Other Ontario cities also made the top 25, including Mississauga (#6), Ottawa (#8), Scarborough (#9), Sudbury (#11), Markham (#14), Etobicoke (#17), North York (#20), Brampton (#23), and Oshawa (#25).
Bernie Grafe, an area manager with Orkin Canada, explained that high human populations often correlate with higher rodent activity. “There’s a symbiotic relationship between rodents and human populations because they rely on our food,” he said. Grafe also noted a “significant” increase in service calls and sightings nationwide over the past year, partially due to last year’s mild winter.

- Maintain Cleanliness: Keep food sealed, dispose of garbage regularly, and avoid leaving pet food out overnight.
- Eliminate Water Sources: Fix leaky pipes and remove standing water where rodents can drink.
- Trim Vegetation: Keep shrubs and trees away from building walls to reduce hiding spots.
- Regular Inspections: Monitor basements, attics, and outdoor areas for signs of rodent activity, including droppings or gnaw marks.
