DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have signed forward P.J. Washington to a four-year, $90 million contract extension. The deal secures him through the 2029–30 NBA season.
Key Piece for Dallas
Washington, 27, joined Dallas from the Charlotte Hornets at the 2024 trade deadline. He immediately became a major contributor during the team’s push to the NBA Finals. The forward started all 22 playoff games that spring and impressed with his defense and versatility.
Last season, he averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.1 blocks across 57 games. He also shot 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from three-point range. ESPN Research noted he was one of just eight players to average at least one steal and one block per game.
Third Major Deal This Offseason
Washington’s agent, Kevin Bradbury, confirmed the extension on Tuesday. The deal also makes him ineligible for trades during the 2025–26 season.
This marks the third major extension Dallas has completed this summer. The team also reached new agreements with All-Star Kyrie Irving and center Daniel Gafford, both on three-year deals. These moves highlight the franchise’s commitment to keeping its core intact.
Mavericks’ Frontcourt Strength
With Washington locked in, Dallas now boasts one of the league’s strongest frontcourts. The rotation features Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II, Washington, and Gafford. Together, they provide size, rim protection, and scoring balance.
Washington, drafted 12th overall in 2019, spent four and a half seasons with the Hornets before his trade to Dallas. He enters his seventh NBA season positioned as a long-term cornerstone for a Mavericks squad chasing another Finals appearance.
