After nearly a full year of rotating more than 60 guest co-hosts, TODAY viewers finally have an answer: Sheinelle Jones is here to stay.
Jenna Bush Hager officially announced on December 9 that Jones will become her permanent co-host on the newly renamed TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, marking the first stable pairing on the show’s fourth hour since Hoda Kotb’s departure earlier this year.
The moment was emotional, authentic, and unmistakably TODAY.
“You all know her — she’s an extraordinary broadcaster,” Jenna said while introducing Jones. “But more importantly, she exemplifies exactly what this show is all about.”
From ‘First Dates’ to Forever Chairs
Since the launch of Jenna & Friends in January, Bush Hager has welcomed a rotating cast of celebrities, politicians, comedians, and cultural icons to her side. Everyone from Michelle Obama to Cardi B, Scarlett Johansson, Taraji P. Henson, and John Legend pulled up a chair.
But in the end, the answer was much closer to home.
Sheinelle Jones, a longtime TODAY family member of more than 11 years, quietly emerged as the perfect fit.
“To have a show like this is beyond my wildest dreams,” Jones said. “This is the real deal — and I get to do it with Jenna.”
Jenna, visibly emotional, hugged Jones live on-air.
“I knew I was going to cry before you walked out,” Jenna admitted. “I tried not to.”
A Full-Circle Moment for Sheinelle Jones
At 47, Jones will step away from the 3rd Hour of TODAY to take her seat beside Bush Hager beginning January 12, while Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Dylan Dreyer continue anchoring the 9 a.m. hour.
The announcement comes after one of the most challenging years of Jones’ life. In May, her husband of 17 years, Uche Ojeh, died at age 45 following a battle with brain cancer.
Upon returning to work in September, Jones spoke openly about navigating grief on-air.
“My coach was gone. My life partner,” she said at the time. “This is my new normal.”
She later revealed that she wore one of her late husband’s shirts on the day she was introduced as Jenna’s permanent co-host.
“I said a little prayer,” Jones shared. “And I said, ‘Let’s go — not with my friend, but my sister.’”

NBC News executives celebrated the announcement, emphasizing the natural chemistry between the two women.

Jones first joined Weekend TODAY in 2014 and became co-host of the third hour in 2019. Her warmth, humor, and emotional openness have made her a fan favorite — traits that now anchor the next era of the fourth hour.
She told viewers the first people she shared the news with were her children.
“There was so much joy in our house,” Jones said. “And we needed that joy.”
As Jenna put it simply:
“There’s nobody I would rather sit next to.”
