Rap fans got an unexpected treat on Wednesday, September 3, as Ice Spice and Latto released their new joint single, Gyatt. Both artists took to social media to announce that a music video for the track will follow on Thursday, sparking excitement worldwide.
A Complicated Past
The collaboration is surprising given the pair’s rumored feud. Back in 2022, Latto and Nicki Minaj clashed on social media over Grammy eligibility disputes, with Minaj questioning why Latto’s Big Energy was considered alongside her Super Freaky Girl.
The following year, Ice Spice, crowned the “Princess of Rap” by Minaj, emerged as a breakout star, while Latto teamed up with Minaj’s rival, Cardi B, on Put It on Da Floor.
Tensions flared further when Latto seemingly took shots at Ice Spice on her 2023 track Fine As Can Be featuring Offset, rapping lines that many interpreted as a jab at Ice’s hit Munch (Feelin’ U).
Making Peace Through Music
Despite past disputes, the artists appear to have set differences aside. Latto, in an August 2024 Billboard interview, downplayed the idea of a rap battle with Ice, saying, “If I was to do [a battle], it would have to be with somebody I feel like Imma go tit for tat with… I feel like she’s doing her in her lane. It’s two different types of vibes.”
Where to Listen
Fans can stream Gyatt now on Spotify, Apple Music, and other major platforms. The official music video drops Thursday, giving listeners a visual treat to go with the track.
