House Democrats on the Oversight Committee released a new batch of photographs Friday from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted sex offender, as pressure builds on the Justice Department to turn over its full cache of Epstein-related files to Congress.
The release comes ahead of a Dec. 19 deadline requiring the Department of Justice to provide lawmakers with all Epstein records it holds.
Who appears in the photos?
The newly released images show Epstein alongside several powerful and well-known figures, including:
- President Donald Trump
- Former President Bill Clinton
- Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates
- Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers
- Conservative strategist Steve Bannon
- Filmmaker Woody Allen
- Billionaire Richard Branson
- Attorney Alan Dershowitz
- Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew
Importantly, the committee said the photos do not show illegal activity by any of the individuals pictured.
House Democrats released 19 images initially, followed later Friday by more than 70 additional photos. Many images show rooms, objects, or settings rather than people.
Why did Democrats release the images?
Rep. Robert Garcia of California, the committee’s ranking Democrat, said the release aims to push transparency.
“It is time to end this White House cover-up and bring justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein and his powerful friends,” Garcia said. “These disturbing photos raise even more questions.”
Garcia added that Democrats will continue pressing the Justice Department to release all remaining Epstein files.
What was redacted?
Several faces and details in the photos appear blurred or blocked out. House Democrats confirmed they applied the redactions before sharing the images publicly.
The committee said it has received roughly 95,000 photos from Epstein’s estate in total. Only a small portion has been released so far.
Trump responds
Asked about the photos Friday evening in the Oval Office, President Trump downplayed their significance.
“Everybody knew this man,” Trump said. “He was all over Palm Beach. There are hundreds and hundreds of people who have photos with him. That’s no big deal.”
Trump also said he had not seen the images before reporters asked him about them.
White House pushes back
White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson accused Democrats of selectively releasing material.
“House Democrats are cherry-picking photos with random redactions to create a false narrative,” Jackson said.
She added that the Trump administration has called for transparency and supported further investigations into Epstein’s associates.
Other figures respond or distance themselves
Several individuals shown in the images have previously addressed their ties to Epstein:
- Bill Gates has said meeting Epstein was a “huge mistake.”
- Larry Summers stepped back from public roles last month, saying he regretted continuing contact with Epstein.
- Alan Dershowitz said he served as Epstein’s lawyer and denied any wrongdoing.
- Bill Clinton has said he had no knowledge of Epstein’s crimes and cut ties years before Epstein’s 2019 arrest.
Other figures, including Bannon, Allen, Branson and Mountbatten-Windsor, did not immediately respond to new requests for comment Friday.
What happens next?
The Oversight Committee’s photo release is separate from the Epstein records held by the Justice Department.
Under legislation signed by President Trump on Nov. 19, DOJ must turn over its Epstein files by Dec. 19. Meanwhile, multiple federal judges have ordered the unsealing of grand jury records related to Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
Together, the disclosures continue to highlight Epstein’s deep ties to influential figures across politics, business and entertainment — relationships that remain under intense public scrutiny.
