MEXICO CITY — Argentine singer, actor, and model Fede Dorcaz, 29, was shot and killed during what authorities believe was an attempted robbery in Mexico City on October 9, just days before his TV debut.
A promising star gone too soon
Dorcaz, known to many as the boyfriend of YouTuber Mariana Ávila, had been preparing to compete on the Mexican dance reality show Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy when tragedy struck. The show later released a statement mourning his loss, saying, “Fede leaves a big void in our team. His memory and passion will continue to inspire us forever.”
The social media program ¡Siéntese Quien Pueda! first broke the news, paying tribute to Dorcaz’s talent and charisma in an Instagram post that read:
“Fede left us too soon, but his talent, charisma, and passion will live on forever in our memories and music.”
What happened?
According to TVyNovelas and Agencia México, Dorcaz was driving a luxury SUV on the Periférico near Electrificación Street in Mexico City’s Daniel Garza neighborhood when two armed men on motorcycles intercepted him.
Investigators say the suspects followed him for some distance before one of them shot him in the neck, killing him instantly.
The Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC CDMX) confirmed that officers and forensic units were dispatched to the scene shortly after the attack. Surveillance footage reportedly shows four male suspects fleeing on motorcycles, and police are now working to identify and arrest those involved.
Rising career cut short
Originally from Argentina, Dorcaz had been living in Mexico for two years and was poised for a breakthrough. Sources told Azat.TV that he approached rehearsals with “dedication and enthusiasm,” and his on-stage chemistry with partner Mariana Ávila had already impressed producers.
The singer’s death has sparked widespread mourning across Latin America’s entertainment industry, with fans and fellow artists remembering him as a gifted performer whose career was only beginning.
