The UFC 330 main event is officially set.
UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev and challenger Ian Machado Garry both weighed exactly 170 pounds Friday morning in Philadelphia, clearing the final hurdle ahead of their massive championship fight on Saturday, August 15.
The entire 12-fight card also survived the scales, with all 24 scheduled fighters ultimately making weight.
UFC 330 takes place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, where Makhachev will make the first defense of the welterweight championship he captured from Jack Della Maddalena last November.
Did Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry make weight?
There were no problems for either man involved in Saturday’s main event.
Makhachev stepped onto the scale at 170 pounds, officially making championship weight.
Machado Garry followed at the exact same number, coming in at 170 pounds and confirming one of the biggest welterweight fights of the year.
The matchup represents Makhachev’s second UFC appearance at welterweight after moving up from lightweight and capturing the 170-pound championship.
Before changing divisions, Makhachev established himself as one of the most dominant lightweight champions in UFC history, successfully defending that title four times.
Now his attention turns to making his first defense at welterweight.
Standing across from him will be Machado Garry, who enters the title fight with a 17-1 professional MMA record and only one defeat in his career.
Garry has repeatedly pointed to his size, striking and movement as factors that could create problems for the champion, while Makhachev enters Philadelphia with an opportunity to extend his remarkable UFC winning streak.
Michael Morales successfully makes weight as UFC 330 backup
The UFC also made sure there was an insurance policy for Saturday’s championship main event.
Top welterweight contender Michael Morales weighed 170 pounds and will serve as the official backup fighter for Makhachev vs. Machado Garry.
Morales will be available to step in should anything prevent either championship fighter from competing before Saturday night.
With Makhachev and Garry both successfully making weight, however, the highly anticipated title fight remains intact.
Mackenzie Dern and Gillian Robertson make championship weight
The second UFC championship fight on the card is also official.
Women’s strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern weighed 115 pounds, while challenger Gillian Robertson also hit 115 pounds.
Dern will make the first defense of the championship she won against Virna Jandiroba at UFC 321.
Robertson enters the biggest fight of her career with an opportunity to make Canadian MMA history. A victory would make her the first Canadian woman to capture a UFC championship.
Both women appeared to have no issues making the championship limit.
Chidi Njokuani has brief scare on the scales
The biggest drama of the UFC 330 weigh-ins came from Chidi Njokuani.
Njokuani initially came in above the permitted welterweight limit and was forced to make another attempt.
He eventually returned to the scale and successfully registered 171 pounds, allowing his preliminary-card fight against Joel Alvarez to proceed without a weight miss.
Alvarez also weighed 171 pounds.
It proved to be the only significant scare during an otherwise successful morning on the scales, with every fighter on the UFC 330 card ultimately making weight.
