Women’s MMA history adds another chapter on May 16.
Ronda Rousey and Gina Carano will meet in a long-discussed superfight headlining the first live MMA event on Netflix.
The event takes place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and streams globally at no additional cost to subscribers. It marks the first MMA promotion under Most Valuable Promotions.

The fight happens on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
It will stream live worldwide on Netflix as part of all subscription plans. This event represents the platform’s first official MMA broadcast following its recent expansion into combat sports.
What Weight Class Will They Fight At?
Rousey and Carano will compete at featherweight, 145 pounds.
The bout will be contested under the Unified Rules of MMA and scheduled for five five-minute rounds inside a hexagon cage using 4-ounce gloves.
Rousey’s Return After Nearly a Decade
Rousey enters with a professional record of 12-2. An Olympic bronze medalist in judo, she became the first female champion in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and played a central role in the organization’s expansion of women’s divisions.
Her last MMA appearance came at UFC 207 in December 2016 against Amanda Nunes. She was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018.
Since then, Rousey transitioned to professional wrestling with WWE and built a presence in film.
Carano’s First Fight Since 2009
Carano holds a 7-1 professional record and was one of the earliest breakout stars in women’s MMA. She headlined a major Strikeforce card in 2009 before women were competing in the UFC.
Her last professional bout came against Cris Cyborg in August 2009.
Following her fighting career, Carano moved into acting, appearing in projects including Haywire and Deadpool.

Despite years of speculation and fan discussion, this will be their first professional meeting.
Their competitive primes did not overlap, but their influence on women’s MMA did. Carano helped establish mainstream visibility during the sport’s early growth phase. Rousey later shattered commercial barriers inside the UFC.
