The 2026 international karate season is officially underway as Karate One Series A Tbilisi opens competition in Georgia, marking the first major World Karate Federation (WKF) event of the year.
As the opening event of the season, Tbilisi also debuts the WKF’s new visual branding, setting the organisational and presentation tone for 2026. At the same time, the event offers the first opportunity to assess form, depth, and emerging talent across the global karate landscape.
Packed Three-Day Competition Schedule
Action began on Friday with Male and Female Kata, alongside Female Kumite +68kg and Male Kumite +84kg, delivering immediate intensity from the opening day.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s program continues with Male and Female Team Kata, Female Kumite -50kg and -55kg, and Male Kumite -60kg and -67kg, further expanding medal opportunities.
Finally, Sunday will spotlight Female Kumite -61kg and -67kg, as well as Male Kumite -75kg and -84kg, before finals and bronze medal bouts conclude each competition day. As a result, fans receive decisive moments and podium finishes throughout the weekend.
Global Participation on Display
Karate One Series A Tbilisi has attracted over 1,000 athletes from more than 80 countries, underlining the scale and competitiveness of the Series A circuit.
Notably, major karate nations including Türkiye, Iran, Italy, France, Germany, Japan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine field large squads. In addition, developing federations and neutral athletes contribute to a diverse and highly competitive field.
This broad participation reinforces Series A’s role as a critical ranking and development platform for athletes progressing toward elite Premier League status.

The event follows the WKF’s official release of its 2026 International Competition Calendar, which outlines one of the most ambitious global seasons to date.
