Canelo Álvarez is officially returning to the ring on September 12 to face undefeated Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The fight will headline another major Riyadh Season boxing event backed by Turki Alalshikh and marks Canelo’s first bout since his loss to Terence Crawford last year in Las Vegas.

The matchup gives Canelo the chance to become a two-time super-middleweight champion after losing the undisputed crown to Crawford in 2025.

“Mbilli is undefeated, and a great fighter, and I respect that.”
Canelo also underwent elbow surgery after the Crawford fight and skipped his traditional May return date earlier this year.
Who Is Christian Mbilli?
Mbilli enters the fight undefeated and currently holds the WBC super-middleweight title after previously carrying the interim championship.
The French-Cameroonian fighter has built momentum with aggressive performances and recently fought Lester Martinez to a draw in a fight many fans praised heavily.
“My last fight was the fight of the year,” Mbilli said. “Against Canelo Alvarez, it will be the fight of the decade.”
