A scheduled bantamweight bout between Cameron Smotherman and Ricky Turcios has been officially canceled following a medical incident at the UFC 324 weigh-ins in Las Vegas.
The fight was set to take place on January 24 at T-Mobile Arena, with Smotherman, a 28-year-old Houston native, making his UFC appearance as a moderate betting favorite (-205). Turcios, also from Houston, entered the matchup as a slight underdog (+165).
Smotherman Collapses After Making Weight
Smotherman successfully registered 135.5 pounds at the official weigh-ins. However, moments after stepping off the scale, he took several steps away before collapsing onto the floor. UFC officials and medical staff immediately attended to him on site.
Despite having officially made weight, Smotherman was not medically cleared to compete, leading to the bout’s cancellation.
In a statement following the incident, Smotherman addressed speculation surrounding extreme weight cutting.
“I’m not entirely sure what happened,” Smotherman said. “I see a lot of people online saying, ‘oh, it’s crazy weight cuts,’ stuff like that — but I didn’t cut that much weight for this fight.”
He added that he plans to undergo additional medical testing to determine the cause of the collapse. Smotherman later shared a video update on Instagram under the handle @lilcampster, which is expected to be embedded in coverage of the incident.
Second Fight Removed From UFC 324 Card
The Smotherman–Turcios cancellation was one of two bouts removed from the UFC 324 lineup.
Earlier, the lightweight matchup between Michael Johnson and Alexander Hernandez was also scratched after irregular betting activity and line movement in the final 48 hours raised concerns. Several sportsbooks reportedly limited action on the fight before it was ultimately removed from the card.
What Happens Next
At this time, no rescheduled date has been announced for Smotherman vs. Turcios. The UFC has not indicated whether the matchup will be rebooked or if either fighter will receive a replacement bout in the near future.
Smotherman’s health remains the priority, and further updates are expected pending medical evaluations.
